We launched the 2015 “Piano in the Grove” with a celebration of music and art!
The pictures below will give you and idea of how many amazing people and organizations were involved in this community project. You can click on each picture to enlarge.
Thank you to Pacey’s Pianos and the Piano Teachers Federation for including us in their Piano’s on the Street program and to the City of Surrey “ Sounds of Summer ” program for including the launch in the Sounds of Summer series!
Thanks to the Newton Recreation Centre for housing the piano during the painting phase of the project, and thanks to Cloverdale Paint and the City of Surrey Beautification Program for donating and funding the paint!
A huge thanks to local artist Bailey Heffernan for designing and painting the artwork on the piano! Bailey also facilitated a community painting session during the Newton Community Festival when children and families also had a chance to contribute to the painting.
If you participated in the painting of the piano, please feel free to drop by and write your name on the back of the piano somewhere.
A huge thank you to everyone who participated in the launch event! Sue Baines and Steve Cottrill from the Double Rainbow Ensemble started us off and pianist Natalia Pardalis followed with some great performances with her students. The Jocelyn Pettit Band played lively Celtic music and had the crowd clapping and cheering!
The piano will remain in The Grove over the summer. Please stop by and play and invite your friends to do the same!
We ask for you help in keeping the piano safe. If it looks like rain, please take a moment to cover up the piano. If you see any damage, please let us know .
This piano is ours to enjoy and take care of! Let’s celebrate!
