If you are a dreamer, come in
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer…
If you’re a pretender, come sit by the fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
― Shel Silverstein
Come in , come in! A wonderful group of 20 local writers, poets and listeners gathered for the “Poetry and Seedbombing” event on April 25.
We spent the first part of our time together sharing poems. We heard poems of celebration and joy. We heard poems of despair and hopelessness. We heard perfectly polished poems, and we heard poems that had been written only moments before!
Gifts certificates were awarded to winners in the following categories: youth, multicultural, memorized and original recited poetry.
After the reading, we gathering to eat and write messages on “seedbombs” made out of recycled paper. The kids hung their artwork and poetry up on trees in The Grove.
When we listen to poetry we are called to listen deeply. We are invited to let the images they create dance inour minds, and let the ideas soak deeply into our being. Let us continue to find ways in our community to listen authentically to each other.
