Newton Grove – June.4.2014

The following submission appeared in “We Are Newton: A Neighbourhood Anthology.” See here for more information about the project.

By: Katheren Szabo

Sitting in the “new” blue seats
Just enjoying today’s sun
Holding a safe place
A quiet welcoming bright space
For humans on the run
It was so beautiful to see chairs!!
Relax a moment and let down my hair
Say hello to passersby

Then I felt a tear drip down
As I saw the sports kids
Unloading gear at the arena
We need to gather now
Show solidarity and proof
Honour our stand now!!
Hold up and encourage our youth
Wet cheeks and sunshine
Cry for our lost Mom

I vow to visit often
Open talk about a safe world
Chat about a free-from-fear Earth
Fill The Grove with love and mirth
If we have a park “sleep-in”
I’d claim the first pink tent
But now I’m spent

A Newton Mom
