NaPoWriMo – Day 8

Each day for the month of April, the Cedar Bark Poets are writing a poem a day in celebration of NaPoWriMo, National Poetry Writing month. Poems are posted here daily. Let Katheren know if you would like to participate!

“And now, for our prompt (optional, as always). It’s Friday, and writing poems isn’t easy! So let’s give ourselves a break with a simple prompt today. Poets have been writing about flowers since, oh, the dawn of time. So today, I challenge you to add your own poem to this long tradition, by finding a flower, and versifying in its honor. Happy writing!”

The Smell of Purple

Oh I love it so
Caught on the breeze
Where ever I go
Surprises unexpected
So sweet like nectar!!
Each day I look to seek
Find my purple
With my nose – greet

Oh scented Madness
Full heart of gladness
Swirling, gently wafting
Heaven even to this despiser
Of all perfumes
I so admire Mother Nature’s
Genius crafting
Lilacs on her ‘Living Room!!’

A flower for the young, and young at heart

a flower that draws contradictions
Love, Loved, Wonderment, loved, hated, loved HATED loved, loved, delighted, love, hated, disinterested, hated, loved perhaps also affected by age affected inflictions as young children just don’t have interdictions

White and wispy
achenes attached to pappus by beak
these were all terms unknown to me when I was young and meek but what child did’t sneak out for a peek watching in amazement as into the wind a new home they’d seek

Now I don’t know about you, but I did go out and blow on just one or two just to see what they would go and do alright, I must confess, that my admission of one or two was made in duress for who wants to confess, that they have help spread what many consider to be a pest.
gardeners far and wide, have back through all of time been known to chide over the spread of this flower into their gardens to bide as its long taproot come to burrow far down to hide and it’s many many seeds that on the wind soon ride

oh it is a diverse family, with more siblings to name than can be remembered by me But readily identifiable, by all whom see, by it’s flower almost immediately also with its distinctive flower stems, and it’s toothy leaves, after which it is named indeed

it’s a flower that should make you feel freed, yet more often that not rather causes people to mutter and plead and curse if they find out the dang things has already gone to seed

they have only one Name for it, they call it a weed

But I think they should eat those words, in fact they can in fact eat the whole thing for to me their complaints echo hollow, much like it’s stem, of it’s cheery flower and good nutrition I’d rather sing a plant of all ages, even today in a way, I mean they have just figured out how to make natural rubber tires out of the thing!
for it’s stem a natural latex rubber does bring

I think of this one as a garden king

A flower yellow
spreading in fields, a sight that should mellow

one of the most common, yet if you look closely, exceptionally uncommon traits are applyin go out and have a good rethink about the lions tooth, my Dent-de-lion

. Taraxacum officinale

Springtime flowers bing an array of colours Pinks, yellows, reds, purples, and more Each flower petal unique, each petal perfect The best of all is the tulip

Tulips are a special kind
Simply because they are beautiful
They remind me of a surprise
Coming up all closed and hidden
Then sprinting open,
Each flower petal unique, each petal perfect

Tulips are delicate and soft
Every year they return to decorate our gardens Colourful and whimsical As they dance in the wind and sun Each flower petal unique, each petal perfect

Tulips are the flower you see
Which welcome the other springtime flowers They create the beginning, the fresh start Bringing smiles to our faces

Red, yellow, pink, and white
Together or apart
These roses signify feelings of delight

Happiness or friendship
fall in love, thank someone,
personalize your gift
with a deeper sentiment,
choose a colour
or mix and match,
follow your heart with heartfelt touch

Give joy with a yellow rose
Appreciation with pink
Purity with white
Give a lavender rose if you have found
Love at first sight.
