My Newton neighbourhood
Crowded with lonely people!
I meet them every day.
Such a simple Hello
Opens hearts in such deep ways.
The Grace in listening
Humbles me!

Weeping with strangers on sidewalks
In forests
Over by the frozen foods.
The struggles faced
Wars, murders, abuses
Multitudes, needing a hand to hold
Anyone … anyone at all
To “be there”.

How their story unfolds!
Alone, alone
In this wide world
That doesn’t seem to care.
Such a small start
But I for one
Am out there!

Locally because I dare
Be the loving space
A compassionate face
Because my heart is prepared
To ask “How are You?”
Into the blackness of hurt stares
I step forward
I believe a smile can save lives!
