A Grove full of gratitude for everyone that that supported the Friends of the Grove Cocktail Party and Fundraiser this past Sunday, May 1! The gathering was a beautiful mix of quirky and classy, which is just how we like it in Newton.
A few months ago Philip Aguirre, owner of the Old Surrey Restaurant and Director of the Newton Business Improvement Association, approached the Friends of The Grove and asked: “Can we throw you a party?”
As a general rule here in Newton, when Philip starts talking about a party, we just say “yes” and ask questions later.
We are very grateful to Philip and the team at the Old Surrey Restaurant for generously hosting this fundraiser. The event was successful beyond our imagination.
A huge thanks to the Kettle Valley Winery for providing the wine, Surrey Archives for the presentation on the history of Newton, and the Newton Cultural Centre for the art display.
Thanks to musicians Ranj Singh and our very own Brad McDowell for the amazing music.
Thanks to City Councilors Judy Villeneuve, Vera LeFranc and Mike Starchuck, and MLA Harry Bains for bringing your leadership and words of support.
Thanks to The Organic Grocer, Dr. and Urmila Das, and Surrey’s Poet Laureate Renee Saklikar for the additional donations.
Thank you to the following local businesses that donated draw prizes: Dance Craft, First Choice Haircut, Treasures of the Heart, Rona, Surrey Muse, Newton Recreation Centre and VG Playroom.
Most of all, a huge thanks to everyone that bought tickets and showed up with curiousity and sense of adventure in hand!
Let’s all continue to work together to find ways to share our resources, time and talent to continue creating the community that we want to live in and be a part of.
