Newton had a great showing for this year’s “100 in 1 Day” festivities!
Bailey got started on the piano painting, and lots of people left comments on the “Music makes me feel…” board. The comment board is still up, so drop by and add your comment!
The SecuriTree stayed up over two nights and wasn’t vandalized. That’s something to celebrate!
Katheren got started on her 60 Day Vigil. She will be there every day between 10am and 2pm until the end of July, so drop by and say hi!
#WeAreSurrey messages were seen everywhere! “We Are Strong,” “We Are Awesome,” “We are Equal” all in English and Punjabi. They are still out there if you go out and look around!
In the evening, the “Room to Draw” community-led art class was well attended! Class will continue on in a series throughout the summer, so check out the events section and drop in some day!
Scroll down for more pictures and event descriptions. Start thinking about your interventions for next year!
Drop by and check out the “Piano in The Grove!” The base coat has just been finished and local highschool artist Bailey Heffernan will begin the painting the artwork this weekend. Once the piano is painted it will be put outside in The Grove for all to play! Leave your mark on the “music makes me feel…” board.
Help test out an innovative, experimental security device in an inner-city Surrey neighbourhood. This low-tech device is made up of broken computer monitors, random cords, and plastic eyeballs that look out over troubled areas in the neighbourhood. It works by luring people out of their cars and houses to walk around the neighbourhood and talk to one another. Drop by and see if it works! Post your pics at #NewtonSecuriTree. If this works, it will be way cheaper than surveillance cameras.
Join Katheren in Day 2 of her “60 Day Vigil for Peace.” Katheren will be spending 4 hours a day in The Grove just listening to people. Drop by and tell your story. Stay a while and listen to someone else’s.
Spinach, lettuce, and Swiss chard are ready for harvest at the Newton Free Food Garden! Drop by anytime during the day and gently harvest from this free food community garden. Be sure to talk to others you meet there!
Let’s hold our heads up high be proud of Surrey! I will be creating positive and hopeful messages in English and Punjabi to post around Newton Town Centre for citizens to find and pass on. Surrey is awesome!
